Fruity Breakfast Purées- Printable food chart attached

What's that saying? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day? So with that in mind I wanted to create a healthy breakfast menu packed with flavor and nutrition. Keep in mind, each new food item should be given to your child for a period of three days to ensure no reaction occurs. Once they have tried each food, you can begin mixing different ingredients together.

NO RICE CEREAL! You will NEVER see me add rice cereal in any of my purées I make because I personally don't believe in using it. So, let me give you a little information behind my decision of not feed it to my baby. Rice cereal is usually made from white rice which doesnt really have any nutritional value. In result it’s just fortified with synthetically produced vitamins, like ferrous sulfate (iron), folic acid (vitamin B9) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). There are different options for "Organic Rice Cereal" but in the grand scheme of things, its not much better. In my opinion rice cereal is used as a "filler" instead of a nutritional benefit.

OATS! I started to introduce oats in his purées because they are one of the healthiest grains on earth. They're a gluten-free whole grain and a great source of important vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Oats also have great health benefits such as lower blood sugar levels and a reduced risk of heart disease.

PRODUCTS: Here are the helpful products I use to make all the magic happen!

The Baby Bullet: The best thing created to make the perfect purée consistency. You can try other blenders but they just don't compare! The Baby Bullet ensures a smooth, creamy finish to any recipe!

Sage Spoonful Storage Jars: Use code: SAGEBRITTNEY20 for 20% OFF! I use these jars more then I use anything else in the house. I store Lyrics freezer food in these, put his leftovers in them, pack meals for on the go AND even use them to store dry snacks. They're the perfect container for any baby occasion.

FOOD CHART: I added the food chart we followed when introducing new foods to Lyric. I printed it out, laminated it and added magnets to the back to hang on our fridge. I put a check mark next to all the foods we tried and agreed with our babes belly; and a NO next to all the things he didn't like or gave him a reaction. This was SO helpful for both my husband and I. My husband works a lot so he wasn't always home to know exactly what Lyric tried for the day; this was extremely helpful so we never lost track ands we both knew what was going on based on the chart.

** ALL my recipes make about 6 or more 3oz jars of food. Most of these purées contain the same ingredients just in different arrangements, for cheapest options go to SAMS or COSTCO and buy in bulk, prep them all and store in the freezer for up to 3 months (6-12 months in a deep freezer).**

CURRANT BEETROOT

  1. 3 pears

  2. 3 apples

  3. 1/2 cup of cooked old fashion oats

  4. 1 package of beets (I buy them from the organic produce aisle already cut and prepared)

Instructions: Peel pears and cut into four slices around the core of the fruit. Repeat this for the apples as well. Put both, the pears and apples in a microwave safe bowl with 3 cups of water and cook on high for 3 minutes or until fruit is soft enough for a fork to glide through. Cook half a cup of old fashion oats (follow directions on the container). Drain the pears and apples. Add pears, apples, cooked oats and the package of beets to your Baby Bullet and blend with 1 1/2 cups of water. ( You may need more water depending on the consistency. The less water you add the thicker it will be, more water will be thinner. (I noticed the thinner consistency is a hit with 4-6 month babes, 6 month + prefers thicker.) You may have to make the purée in two batches in order to fit all the ingredients into the Baby Bullet, but thats okay, you can combined them all at the end. Add to your 3oz Sage Spoonful jars and ENJOY!
