Review of the 2019 Mazda CX-9 Signature

Updated: Sep 19, 2019

My husband and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary with a fun trip to Georgia and let me tell ya, we had a BLAST! We decided to take a new 2019 Mazda CX-9 Signature on our 3 hour road trip to test out a different vehicle then what we currently have. We love doing this for our own future reference incase we're ever in the market for a new vehicle. This way we already know which ones we like and which ones we don't. So, I figured I would share my review with you guys in hopes of helping you narrow down your search or introduce something you weren't originally thinking of.

Exterior of the 2019 Mazda CX-9 Signature

First off, I just want to take a second to talk about the Interior and Exterior of the car. When the car first arrived I was blown away by the body style, sleekness and how stylish it was. We received the Machine Gray Metallic color which had a little sparkle to it as you walked around the car. It's not your traditional gray, but instead it's more of a gray with a black undertone. The car also features 20" aluminum-alloy wheels, Automatic folding side mirrors, Adaptive Front-lighting System, LED Fog Lights, Windshield wiper de-icer, Front and rear parking sensors and so much more but I would be here forever talking about it. These were just some of the features I really loved and found to be a nice touch!

So, not only is the outside of the car sleek but the Interior compliments it extremely well. When I first opened the drivers side door and my jaw dropped because IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. I love how you wouldn't think of choosing both the exterior and interior colors but yet they go together so well. I'm usually not the type of person to pick out the Auburn Nappa color for the leather but it actually looked amazing in the car and now I can honestly say I love it. The color reminds me of a burgundy/orangish/ purple all mixed together in one subtle tone. I know it sounds crazy so I'll just show you pictures so you can see for yourself!

Okay so the inside of the car has to be my favorite by far. There are so many amazing features that I never even knew existed in a car until I drove this one. My first must have in a vehicle is a sunroof and we had just that. Our whole trip to Georgia we road with the sunshade open to let that natural light in and I loved every minute of it!

Of course our solo road trip with NO KIDS wouldn't be a true road trip without blasting all the music we don't normally listen to with our kids in the car. And let me tell ya this vehicle did not disappoint in that department. It has a Bose® Centerpoint® 2 Surround Sound System with 12 speakers so my husband and I were jammin' the entire time, haha! We just played our Pandora but the Mazda CX-9 Signature comes with a 3 month trial subscription of SiriusXM Satellite Radio and traffic and travel link services which gives updates on traffic, weather, sports scores, current fuel prices and nearby or destination parking updates. It also has a Navigation system which is on a 7" LCD Multi-Information Display which will show your backup camera, a 360º view monitor of the car and all information relayed to your Mazda.

A couple other things that I can't stop swooning over is the fact that this vehicle has a heated steering wheel. Yeah, you heard that right, heated steering wheel. Were in Florida and it's extremely hot right now so we weren't able to use this feature but this would be amazing during the winter months! The Mazda has two USB plugs as well so you can charge your phone which we used the entire car ride to Georgia. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the volume control knob. If you look in the picture the knob is located at the bottom of the center console on the passengers side. It honestly took my husband and I awhile to find it because we're so used to the volume being at the top of the console on the drivers side. We kept turning the air conditioning up thinking it was the volume, haha! I'm sure it's something you would get used to after having the car for awhile, but as a first time driver it was a little confusing.

It also has heated seats in both the front as well as the back seats which is a must during the winter months. The driver's side has power seat memory which my husband and I used a lot. He pushed a button to use his seat settings while he was driving and I did the same when it was my turn to drive. The front seats are also ventilated which makes it great for airflow in the hot Florida heat.

The backseat is very spacious which was a little surprising to me because the car looks very "sporty". The second row has retractable window sunshades which I LOVE! Our current car doesn't have that and it is one thing I really like after driving the Mazda. The sun is always in our kids eyes and this made the perfect solution to that without a bunch of tacky suction cup shades dangling from the back seat.

Last thing I wanted to talk about is the 3rd row. This particular Mazda is very spacious and even has the option to pull up seats for a third row. The third row isn't as spacious as the second but I like that it has that option. The truck space is nice and fit our suitcases, golf clubs and clothes to hang up all in the back with plenty of room for more stuff. It would easily fit multiple things for a large family such as strollers, diaper bags, etc.

Some of my favorite features as a first time Mazda driver:

The acceleration when you hit the gas is amazing, the option to drive it in sport mode, lane departure warnings, blind-side assist, for being a 3rd row SUV the vision out of the windows is great, when in cruise control the car basically drives itself by slowly stopping as it approaches another vehicle, and lastly, I love the heated seats in the back of the car because you don't see that often.

Some things I wasn't a fan of as a first time Mazda driver:

No air condition seats which is a must here in Florida, there isn't dual climate, back up camera was a little blurry (ours might have had plastic on it but we couldn't tell) and the android car play was a little confusing which I'm sure if we had more time to play around with it we would understand it better.

Whether you have a large family or a small family this car checks off the majority of the boxes. We really enjoyed driving the 2019 Mazda CX-9 Signature and everything it has to offer. I would definitely buy this car in the future and I even put it on our future car list if we're ever in the market for another vehicle. Obviously there's a TON of other features then what I touched based on but these were some of my favorites that I normally look for when I'm car shopping. If you're on the fence I would definitely go to your local Mazda dealership and take it out for a test drive because once you drive it, you wont want anything else. I'm actually kinda bummed we just now learned about Mazda because my mom just bought a new SUV. Had I known about this vehicle I would have pointed her in this direction versus what she got.

If you're interested in learning more about Mazda or this particular vehicle I have linked their website as well as their social media channels for you to check out! If you happen to have this car, test drive it or just purchased it please let me know! I want to hear all about it!
